Our business maintains a growing client base in North Brisbane that have experienced the Fully Slick Difference and trust in us to protect their investment with our professional car detailing services. But how can our clients maintain those dust and dirt-free car seats between details and shampoos? Well, it doesn’t get better than hearing some tricks of the trade from the professionals, so read on as we share with you, our best tips for maintaining car seats so that your car holds its value and you can enjoy a cleaner ride for longer. APPLY A FABRIC PROTECTOR
Fabric protectors are designed to seal the cloth upholstery to ensure that stains and dirt don’t settle into the fibers. They are also a great way to protect car seats from the extra friction between your seat and any car-seat covers you may be using. A mobile car detailing service like us can apply a fabric protector on your seats, or you can do it yourself with a high-quality product that will make it easier to clean the upholstery every few months periodically. It is always recommended to apply fabric protectors even with the use of car seat covers. We can offer this service for your convenience. COVER YOUR SEATS When spending time in your car each day, it can be easy for dirt and stains to accumulate due to the frequent use of the vehicle. Those who have cloth seats may notice that the material becomes dingy over time, which can affect the overall quality, look and appeal of the cabin. If you want to keep your cloth seats clean and looking new, look at getting yourself some snazzy car seat covers that compliment your car’s interior. Covering the car seats is an effective way of keeping them clean over time without worrying about wear or the formation of stains and grime. Wack in some seat covers that are comfortable and complement the styling of the interior setting. There’s a few plusses here too - If you pick the right car seat covers and fit them well, they can lift the appearance of outdated cloth patterns on older makes and models. They are available in different types of materials, colours, shades, and prints too. Seat covers can also be used to offer back support and improve your posture while spending time behind the wheel. When they start to look worn and done-with, unlike the car seats themselves, you can rip out the old covers and get that brand new look once again with some freshies! DETAIL THE CAR An obvious precautionary measure – maintenance. Detailing your vehicle is an important part of caring for it. This is easily the best choice towards ensuring that your car maintains its appeal and value over the years. Detailing the car will remove dirt on the seats, as well as other surfaces where dirt has settled, which can circulate within the cabin. Choose a detail that involves vacuuming and shampooing the seats to brighten their fabric and thoroughly remove dirt that is present. We invite you to have a chat with us any time to learn more about how to keep your cloth seats clean in your vehicle. We love sharing our love of cars with our clients and that usually involves sharing a few quality tricks of the trade! INTRODUCE NEW RULES Make it a rule to avoid eating in the car, this reduces the chance of creating spills and messes that can occur while operating the vehicle. Without food in the car, you will also prevent those pesky crumbs and sauces from collecting on the seats. That’s not to say the answer always has to be no – Parents, I’m talking to you! We know our North Brisbane Families like to treat our kiddos. Car snacks can still be had on trips in the car, however, we recommend you opt for using a towel to place in your lap. This way, the towel will catch any crumbs or sauces that are spilled, and your cloth upholstery will be protected. If it's beverages you’re craving, try to make sure they are well-sealed containers to reduce the risk of spillage. VACUUM THE SEATS REGULARLY Vacuuming the seats is essential to remove dirt that forms throughout the week and prevent it from settling into the fibers of the cloth material. Use a handheld vacuum that can be stored in your boot to make it easy to clean the seats on the go and prevent crumbs or other types of food particles from leaving behind permanent stains. Remove Clutter Many people use their vehicle as a place to store their items while spending time traveling. Unfortunately, clutter that accumulates can cause damage to car seats when they have contact with the various materials and items left inside the vehicle for long periods of time. Make it a point to remove clutter each week by emptying the front and backseat of shoes, sporting equipment, rubbish or work supplies that you’ve been transporting. WIPE OFF THOSE SHOES BEFORE GETTING INTO THE CAR Our shoes bring mud, leaves, sand and even bacteria into the cars. Knocking your shoes together or wiping them off before sliding into your car can minimise the damage done to your floor mats. It’s nearly impossible to avoid marks on your mats completely, but this step can save you some trouble next time your carpets are vacuumed or shampooed. VINYL SEAT CLEANING AND PROTECTION If you have vinyl seats, keeping them looking beautiful is easy with a regular maintenance schedule. Spray a light coat of water-based vinyl seat cleaner directly onto an applicator pad and wipe the seat down one section at a time. Go over with a microfiber towel to dry off any excess cleaning agent and leftover dirt before it dries on the seat’s surface. With a new applicator pad, apply a vinyl protector one section at a time being sure to really get into all those grooves and creases in the seat. Wipe down once more with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any excess from the creases and stitching in the seats. LEATHER SEAT CLEANING AND PROTECTION It’s a similar scenario with leather seats too. Start with a thorough vacuum and wipe down from any dust and dirt. This ensures that the dirt, sand, and loose grime won’t scratch or rub into your seats as you clean them down. Apply a leather cleaner using a microfiber cloth slowly and work in small sections to minimize any chance of discoloration. Once you’re happy with it, wipe the seats down again with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to get rid of any excess moisture and cleaning product. Next up, is a leather conditioner. This will keep the leather soft and supple and also prevent any cracking and drying out. With an applicator sponge or a microfiber cloth, apply a small amount to the car seats and leave to soak in for a short amount of time. Come back to buff off the excess conditioner with a fresh cloth and admire the results. A rule of thumb with leather seats is to clean regularly and condition occasionally. IMPORTANT!! Before using any new products on your car seats, be sure to do a test patch in a discreet area first to be sure that the product is right for your car.
