Looking After Chrome on Your Vehicle

28/6/2021

Chrome is always added to a car to create an eyecatching experience. It can make any car go from simple and modest to exotic and ‘cool’ in an instant. Whether it’s your exhaust, trim, bull bars, or rims; you want your chrome looking its best at all times.

All over Brisbane, car owners are pulling their hair out trying to keep their chrome accents looking sparkling clean. They constantly clean and scrub their chrome hoping to guarantee that it never looks dull. But, that process can quickly lead to scratched or damaged chrome if you aren’t careful! Take it from us, we’re your resident experts for mobile car detailing, North Brisbane.

HOW TO POLISH CHROME ACCENTS ON YOUR CAR:

It’s not always common sense when it comes to mobile car cleaning. Brisbane especially makes this difficult with salt content in the air and dust particulates that scratch and dull your shine. So, if you want to keep your chrome looking its best, follow these simple steps:

  • Wash The Chrome
The first thing you should do is wash the dirt and grime off of the chrome with a gentle microfibre cloth and a chrome/metal cleaner. If not available, you can simply use water to get the bulk of the dirt cleared away.
  • Polish the Chrome
After you have washed the chrome accents and allowed them to dry, it’s time for a quick polish. Use a high-quality metal polish to gently buff out any minor pitting and damage. Make sure to apply according to the instructions of the polish and always go in slow circular motions. Going too fast will cause further damage to the chrome! Also, remember that less is more when it comes to polish. Never use more than the size of a 20-cent piece.
  • Buff the Chrome
Now that you’ve polished the surface, you should buff it out with a dry microfibre cloth. You should buff gently but quickly until you see the shine of the chrome and that the cloudiness of the polish has been removed.

  • Wax the Chrome
Once you have buffed the chrome, you want to seal and protect it with a coating of car detailing wax. This will help lock in that shine, and make future cleaning and polishing that much easier!
